Fast forward 2 years and I go to the VIenna store on Black Friday to film for my new channel on dead and dying retail in the PKB area. The store is very busy and I very discreetly held my cell phone camera at my waist, under my jacket. You would have to have a trained eye who was determined to prevent filming to even notice. My filming was not at all disruptive or even noticed by anyone.
This is a convenient place to stop for residents in the surrounding areas... For some it's too convenient... But the employees are very pleasant to get along with.
I told the employee I would look into their corporate policy on filming. There were no signs at the store saying not to as other establishments have (i.e. the mall). I contacted the corporate office which told me that there is no corporate policy and that it is up to the individual store manager. So in other words, the employee was just causing problems and had no standing to confront and harass me. Now that I know that, I'll be back to film openly when you guys close! Maybe you'll learn your lesson before you go bankrupt.
I was in the store for maybe two minutes before I heard a page to security to check the cameras. A second page was made a few minutes later. As I was leaving, about 8 minutes in, I noticed I was being stared at by an employee. I approached her and said hi. She asked me if I was filming and I said yes (not wanting to explain the difference in broadcasting live). She asked me why and said it "looks bad" and that it looked like I was "casing the joint". I told her no one would rob a Kmart. She didn't ask me to stop filming and since I was already on my way out, I offered to leave but this is just another way Kmart makes its customers feel like criminals and then wonders why no one will shop there. So 2/2 of my last visits to Kmart I have been accused of stealing.
Crowded people grabbing bargains because of their closing. Wished they would of patronized them so they could of stayed open. Employees pleasant as always even though they are loosing their jobs.
The Kmart store visited today is going out of business and closing the 1st of January. I shopped this door many times in the past. Now they're advertising up to 40% off and some items are 50% off. However what I see is they have Jack the prices up because I remember what some of the prices were before they announced they were closing I've shopped there today in the last 2 weeks and I bought nothing. I don't really see any great deals except on Christmas items like decorations and life. Also they have signs up saying all sales are final I don't understand that because if you purchase something at its Kmart why could you not take it to another Kmart and exchange it or return it I don't see a problem with that why couldn't you take it to another store and return it.
Clean and great prices. The sales to get ready for fall are amazing! People were friendly, shelves were stocked and organized. Great kids clothing.
I have had issues with Kmart before. Particularly when the now closed Southside store accused me of stealing an air mattress which I was returning to them because it was sold with a 6-inch large gash in the bottom. They wouldn't return it because it was a different color than on the box. It's not my fault that you put the wrong color in there.
